Don’t see all of your creditors listed to send a Hardship Letter to? That’s okay; there is a reason for that!
Paydoff identifies which of your creditors should receive a Hardship Letter at this stage. Typically, this letter will be sent only to your Original Creditors (the bank or lender you originate the loan with). At this point in your debt resolution plan, there is no need to provide collection firms or law firms details about your situation or Hardship.
Once you have alerted Paydoff that one of your Original Creditors has been transferred to a collection firms (usually between 4-7 months of delinquency), you will be prompted to send the collection firm a different letter which will request that the Collection Firm validation your debt. This letter is called a Validation of Debt Letter. For more information about this letter, you can read: What is the Purpose of the Validation of Debt Letter?
Side note: Later in the process, usually when you are in the heat of negotiations, you may need to send a different type of Hardship Letter to a collection firm you are trying to settle with. Oftentimes, a collector will request details about your Hardship to approve a low settlement offer.
